“Therefore, since we are surrounded by so
great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which
clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before
us,” (Hebrews 12:1
This
is a noteworthy verse reminding the athletes that entering into any sporting
event or race is not alone. There are witnesses all around that are cheering on
and watching to see what they are all about. Are they going to persevere, or
give up? What are they made of? The Lord encourages to be brave on facing
complexities there may be along the way to embrace success. Knowing that they are
not alone, they can give strength not only to themselves but to the spectators,
and remind that everyone can be an example to others around even during a game.
In a separate instance, we could find in the Scripture that says, "And whatever you do, in word or in deed, do everything in the name
of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him."(Colossians 3:17) . It is also written, "So whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do everything
for the glory of God. (1 Corinthians 10:31)
As a matter of fact, the Bronco's Tim Below, whose faith and play have been in the spotlight, praying before a game. On the other hand, as a baseball players point to the heavens
after hitting home runs, National Football League (NFL) players pray in the end
zone after scoring. Competitors routinely thank Jesus, along with their
sponsors, in post-game interviews; these are but significant examples of doing
in word or in deed everywhere.
